Contract Awarded
Power Plastics Awarded the contract for the Temporary Weather Barrier project at Hunterston "A" Nuclear Power Station
After twelve months of hard work Power Plastics have been awarded the contract for the Temporary Weather barrier at Hunterston "A" Power Station. As a part of this contract we will design the TWB to withstand 130 MPH winds with a design life of ten years.
As a part of the project we will design a new extrusion that will interface onto the existing building, a total of 105 ton of aluminium extrusion will be used on this project. We will fabricate a total of 16,000 M2 of our Powerplas 1002 material in our premises in Thirsk which will fit into the new extrusion. When this material is tensioned it will become a ridged structure that will withstand the natural elements.
The hard work of designing the structure and installing the Demonstration stage is currently underway, this will involve having the complete design approved by Magnox prior to the fabrication of any parts.
To prove the system works a demonstation area of 20m wide x 37m high will be installed onto the reactor, any lessons that need to be learnt will then be carried forward ino the main contract.
